Poetry #7 – Reaching Port

Reaching Port

Emotions maimed

war-tattered souls

reach

emaciated shore

alive

                                    seeking comfort

                                    companionship

                                    finding neither

                                    difference excludes.

Memories tear

absent

friends cherished

beyond

the hiatus of children

lost roots

seeds sprouting

in foreign garden blind

to yearning hearts.

Time heals

comfort

companions

new riches found

the sound of alien birds

children playing

in safety and sun

connection grows

port reached.

Poetry #8 The Clown

The Clown

Amused

You twist their eyes

and mouths you twist

but not their hearts

you twist their words

clever to avoid

eyes that draw

a place where pain is

where heart must twist with heart

and love they do

and laugh

but soon the joke is empty

and hungry

they drift away.

Poetry #9 – Six-Month Scan

Six Month Scan

Your tiny head large

on body curled

a bud

waiting to flower

your tiny hand

devastating in perfection

reaches

already impatient

to grasp life

beyond black and white

womb images

three strings of pearls

drift in and out of focus

exquisite vertebral beauty

glowing

rib filaments form

fragile cage

sheltering beating heart.

Poetry #10 – The Crocodile

The Crocodile

Too late I grieved

your needless death

my careless net fell

to catch the lively cheribin

we swam and played

in naked isolation

bewitched by wilderness beauty

ignorant of the wonder

dwelling in the deep.

Your speckled scales

shimmer in the morning sun

your peaceful smile belies

the silent struggle

to escape my thoughtless trap

I rue my rude intrusion

and vow to now go lightly

into your world

my paradise found

your paradise lost.

Poetry #11 Tide

Tide

Rushing seaward

yellow, brown, black leaves

plastic drink bottles

a bald tennis ball

mangrove spears bob vertical

lost children

seeking place to root.
